BRINGING A PUPPY HOME

Remember, your puppy looks to you for direction, comfort and protection. Everything is new to her; so she may not be playful and frisky at first. Give her time. Be patient and talk to her. Puppies may not know people vocabulary, but they soon learn to respond to your voice and commands. Speak to her often and gently and always treat her kindly.

Introduce your puppy to her area as soon as you bring her home. Put her toys in her crate and show her where her food and water bowls are. Your puppy will soon know which special little corner of your house is hers. Respect her right to be undisturbed while she is resting, sleeping, or eating.

Your puppy probably will be homesick for a night or two, so dont be surprised if she whimpers or cries at bedtime or mealtime. Remember, she has just been taken away from her mother and littermates.

Avoid rough play and handling of your new puppy. Let her make her own advances. It may be days before she feels at home and wants to play. Dont overtire your puppy. Play with her, but give her plenty of time for naps.
